The task of wedding planning can seem daunting, but bridal shows can give brides the chance to talk to local vendors. Finding wedding vendors you can trust, is not as simple as you think. Vendors want to make their business profitable and will go to some lengths, to get your business. Brides with the "deer-in-headlights look," who ask a lot of questions, are not very educated in the bridal world. This makes the bride the perfect victim, or I mean customer, to take advantage of.

Planning early and doing your homework is a key. Call on your friends that have been recently married within the last five years. Ask them where they purchased their wedding gown, bridesmaids gowns etc. Then ask them who they would not recommend to do business with. Word of mouth is the best way to find out about business that you need to "run" from. When you think about it, businesses want customers and they will paint themselves as a great place to shop.

When a new bride shows up at a bridal salon, the goal is to get that bride to purchase that day. If the staff can not get the bride to purchase on the same day, they will suggest you sleep on your decision. If staff dotes on the bride for at least an hour or more, and they do not make a sale, then their time has been wasted. If the bride shops at another retailer, they could lose that sale.  The staff are very polite, curious, and caring. They will pass along information, tips, and advice as a way to get you be believe they are knowledgeable about the business and can take care of your every need. This will build trust with the bride and her family and establishes a relationship.

Do an online research for wedding salon reviews. Do some digging, because negative reviews can be covered up. Salons can hire agencies to place fake reviews on the review pages and bury those negative reviews.

Once you purchase the dress, it will take several months to come in. The Wedding Dress Shopping 101 booklet gives you tips on how to tell if your gown was actually purchased from the manufacture, or the gown you tried on at the salon. Salons that provide alterations, like your dress to come in a month before the wedding. This way they are almost guaranteed to be able to do your alterations. Now, this is where you will see the true colors of the staff come out.

If you have called several times about your dress, stopped in the salon several time to ask questions, anything gone wrong with ordering bridesmaids dresses etc..... here is where thing will get interesting. You see, it is almost impossible to find another person to do alterations at the last minute, so you are at the hands of the staff where you agreed to have your dress altered. If you have become a "thorn" in their side, you will see the true colors of the staff.

Stop into fabric stores and gather alteration business cards. Ask the staff in the store if they have someone they would recommend to do alterations. You can also call those friends who got married less than five years ago and ask where they got their alterations.
